Yes, its the oil plug gasket. You are supposed to change it with each oil change. But it does last longer than that. I did not know they were including them with the filters. I just received three from Conicelli, I should open them and see if I have the gaskets too.

I have never seen one of those in my oil filter boxes. I think my local stealer must be removing them so they can make you buy them. I have also never changed mine and I've never had any leaks or anything. going on maybe 50 oil changes on this thing too.

That dealer is where I pick up my filters and I watched them open the box and drop it in there. I said, "thanks buddy".

I put this in a little while ago at the same time I switched to Amsoil. I haven't changed the oil yet but I checked the cap after some salt water dousing at Pismo and the insides were all good

http://www.fumotovalve.com/ Go here for the prices and see whether you want the one w/ or w/o the nipple. I got the "nippleized" version so I can attach a tube to it for better draining accuracy onto a pan...not necessary though. They are very well made and I have never heard any complaints about them.

Thats pretty cool but is it low profile? Will it scrape on a rock and leave a trail of motor oil in the forest?

Mine w/ the nipple sticks out about 2". The one w/o the nipple about 1.25". If you are a serious off roader and scrape over rocks and such, I would be leery about getting one.

well, i changed my oil yesterday and no oil plug gasket was on there, so i just left the one i got with the oil filter off. it took me almost 2 hours to do the whole change and the only reason was the stupid oil filter was REALLY tight on there. so i had to get my cousin to come and take me to get a oil filter wrench. other than that, no problem. i switched oils from mobile 1 10w-30 to 5w-30...hope it will be ok for winter here...again, i just wanted thank you guys for the support and feedback..it's always appreciated.

I'm not sure about your truck but my oil plug is protected by the skid plate.

Mine has a skid plate also. But if the plug is any longer than stock it could possibly scrape. I will just stick with using the rachet.
