I am getting bored waiting for my timing chain to arrive so i decided to make some parts pretty, 5.00 can of engine enamel and some elbow grease this is what i ended up with. I also found out how fun it is to get a wire from a wire wheel in the cartlidge of my ear. it took me 2 days to find out why my ear was hurting it was about 3/4 of an inch long and was only sticking out about an 1/8 of an inch so needless to say it was really fun taking it out, the worst pain i have felt in awhile. Good thing i was wearing my safety glasses. maybe i should upgrade to earmuffs to.

 

I use earmuffs and a face shield with those!!

Yep... full face shield all the time when I'm using a wire wheel.

 

Wire wheels take too long.
Blast cabinet, some powder coating and a few files is much safer and faster.

 

If only everybody had a blast cabinet at home...

 

A small blast cabinet will easily fit valve covers and lots of other things. They are also easily affordable and available from Harbor Freight, Northern Tool and Eastwood etc. for under $150.

Blast cabinet, powder coating tools, spray booth and oven I have less than $1500 in it all, and the booth was half of that expense.

Dremel tools have some nice wire wheel accessories as well.

 

Valve cover looks very nice btw. I need to go back and clean the pc off the two long ridges on mine now that I see yours.

i was using a dremel wire wheel it wasnt a very good one there was nothing left when i was done, i would have been using the bead blaster in the garage but it is broken right now.

I didnt use any clearcoat i just used about 3 coats of gloss rattle can i wasnt sure how clear coat rattle can would have looked on it, i didnt want to mess it up because i was really happy how good it turned out. barely any orange peel and no fish eyes.

I will get some installed pics on as soon as its installed i am still waiting for my parts. which is taking way too long.

yea wirewheels aren't always fun.

What is worse is when you get a welding spark down your ear..... Now i wear earplugs.

will be doin this within the week..haha!..while my block is off gettin bored i can paint my VC..and MAYBE...just MAYBE..clean my head in the parts cleaner...it'll make some STOCK ORIGNAL 327 CHEVY heads look brand new..and those heads had been sitting outside...with only a tarp over them for the last idk..10-15 yrs..yea..they look brand new now..lol..when i get my block back im going to paint it as well..but idk what color..not black..i wanna be able to see oil leaks if and when they happen..haha..

anybody got any opinions as to what color i should paint my block..will go HEMI orange with the VC..black on the header...so what for the block???

 

Industrial Engine green... it is nice colour that shows every leak, they used to use it a lot in marine engine rooms and industrial power plant rooms.
If you are a railroad fan it is very close to "Penn Central" green [any model railroad hobby shop should be able to show you a sample of it fwiw]

You asked for a colour that would show leaks well not look good lol...
