I have a squeak in my rear window when i raise or lower it- 91 4runner. I have taken off the carpet on the rear deck and looked for obvious signs of the cause, and all I can see that may be the cause is rust along the lower metal casing of the window where the regulator tracks. I asked the Toyota dealer parts man if there is a common fix for this problem and he said the whole regulator usually has to be replaced- big bucks for a little squeak. Anybody know any tricks to stop the squeak or typical causes of this problem? It seems to squeak less when wet from rain. This must be a pretty common problem and annoyance for others out there- any input would be appreciated. thanks

Frikkin stealership for yuh huh. Well I also have a 1991 4Runner and also have a squeek in my rear window. I have assumed it has been dry window tracks but have just been to lazy to grease them up. That is the fix for it I believe not replacing the whole regulator. I am actually surprised after asking them about the squeek why the dealership didnt say you need a new rig. Thats their style you know.

Mine squeeks but got a lot better after I used it frequently for a few months. Up and down a couple of times a day for a couple of months made it dead silent which I assume means the lube got redistributed. I should take mine apart and grease it though. I don't live in the rust belt but if you do don't hesitate to get on that project.
