i know it's pretty popular among Bimmer's and other German speedsters, anybody used this on a Yota?

the reason i'm asking was when last time i had my oil changed, the shop i went put it in mine, it's holding well so far after 55k miles, i checked yesterday, seems the color is lighter than Mobile1 around the same level of mileage.

it's oil time so do i stick with it or go back to M1? 5-ltr. jug of Lubro Moly 5-30 $50, 5-qt. jug M1 5-30 $35. i need 6 qts of oil, so i can't just buy 1 or 2 jugs.

 

If you havent had it tested there is no way to tell. Looking at it and rubbing it betwee your fingers tells you zero about the oil and what it is doing.
Get them tested

 

well im sure its good stuff.. but me personaly.. i like the mobile 1 products. always had good luck their oils and greases, and use them all the time at my work on equipment.

When I bought my truck about a year/12,000-15,000 miles ago, the previous (original) owner told me he had been using the Lubro Moly 5w-40 synthetic oil for years in the truck and he swore by it. The truck had ~140,000 miles on it when I bought it, and seemed to run great. I had never heard of that oil until he told me about it.

When I took possession of the truck and brought it to my local Toyota/Lexus mechanic for a multi-point inspection and general service, they also changed the oil and used their usual Castrol conventional 5w30 or whatever, and I have had them do the same a total of 4-5 times now. I never mentioned the synthetic oil to them or asked them about it.

So I was wondering if there was any more info on this specific oil. I never really drove the truck when it had this in it, so I have no "first-hand experience" with it. When I got the truck (and still, now) it did/does not leak, but it does burn oil - routine city driving about 1 qt. every 1,000 miles; but when I take long highway trips I seem to burn about 1 qt. every 400-500 miles or so.

I plan on doing a Sea Foam treatment before my next oil change, and was heavily considering transitioning back to synthetic. I was/am a little afraid that it might expose some leaks...even though there really isn't good reason to since it wasn't/hasn't leaked since I got it (paranoia, I guess). I hadn't been using synthetic previously because I figured it wasn't worth double the $$, but now I feel that it will help the motor run better and last longer. I don't know...

 

Or would using synthetic oil be an extra waste of money since it burns and I have to consistently replace it between oil changes anyway?

 

You might try a thicker oil, such as a 10-40 to see if it helps consumption. The thinner oil may be sneaking past the rings, whereas a thicker oil would have a harder time doing so.

Also, your motor calls for 10w-30 not 5w-30, that will make a differance in oil burning.
A quart every 3,000 is ok. One every 500-1000 is a little much.

Because I have been burning oil, my mechanic recommended using a thicker viscosity and I therefore had Castrol 20w50 conventional put in on the last change, which was almost 1,000 (city) miles ago. The dipstick is low, as it was before switching to this thicker oil.

 

I have been to that website several times. And while I do see info on the Lubro Moly oil and on the 3vze engine, I have not found info on using that specific oil in this specific engine, which is why I bumped the thread here...

while on the topic of oil changes, a fumoto valve make oil changes happen in the half the time and less mess.

And here is some I bought for it today. Does anybody know if they are different in any way? Or is the packaging just different? All the specs seem to be the same...
