LC Engineering Power Package upgrades...

So I'm in need of some extra omph for my 88 4runner 22re.

Does anyone have any experience with this package? Feedback? Worth it?

I only have experience with the headers and they by them selves was quite an improvement. My suggestion is to use some gray rtv on the little plates the cover the the holes above the tubes of the header

I just have a hard time seeing 20-30 HP at $1000...

even though that's what, a 50% increase, lmao

I will most likely also need to get new rocker arms if I'm getting a new cam. This is another $250 on top of the $1000. Then I'd need everything installed....which I can probably do but I would rather just take it to someone to do so I don't have to deal with it.

well here is what i did cuz i was also contemplating the LCE power package get the header for sure or thorley both good. get an engbldr 268 or 271 what ever you like the best. then get on craigslist and find an 82 supra AFM it plugs right in. and pick up the throttle body i am working on getting the TB to work on my truck

so did you do these things yet or just contemplating them? I may do the header and cam first/ I'd also like to get an MSD or a Jacobs ignition as well.

Don't do MSD/Jacobs if this is your DD, you could end up stranded somewhere. Both of those are a bit notorious for failing when you need them the most.

i did the supra AFM, thorley header, and i just picked up a new ported head and with the 268 cam in it. i am working on the TB right now.
and i agree with windsor the only electric stuff you should get is the a fan

What's your intake set up, I am trying to find out where exactly the bottle neck is in the stock intake is (AFM, TB, or intake duct).

Could you install your intake mod in steps to determine that? How's the TB going, I'm looking forward to seeing the result.

I've been running an MSD coil for a year and a half now with no issues, but only the coil, not the stand-alone ignition

Looks a lot like the "Edelbrock Total Power Package" and similar power combo kits. They crunch all the dyno numbers in relation to the engine application and all you have to do is install and tune to spec.

yeah, the coils are fine.

The ESD boxes are problematic. Mounting the boxes inside the cab is better but still "only doubles" their life expectancy.

had an MSD Blaster coil on the 91 for about a year and a half and it burned out, leaking oil and causing a rough idle / misfire.

I'm planning on the Supra AFM and TB for the 4runner and will probably do the same header set up that iamsuperbleeder did. I don't forsee a lot of HP gains but would like a little better throttle response and eliminate the 5th gear hill climb issue.

Matt I think the biggest bottle necks are the stock AFM and intake duct.

the whole dang intake system is a bottle neck. the head has a super tight quench section that only makes it worse. best bang for the buck is header good exhaust and highflow intake
