I recently posted about my horrible mileage and general carb troubles. I decided to take off the carb and put in a napa rebuild kit. My results are generally positive. I got rid of the shakey idle, the black sooty exhaust, and the mileage has improved tremedously.

Acceleration is very smooth and responsive, but when at cruising speed and/or slight deceleration on the highway I get this annoying little hiccup, just a split second of hesitation. It happened a couple times before the rebuild as well. (seems more prevelant now) Is this a carb related issue?

Almost feels like a misfire: like the ingine cut out for only a split second.

could be related to the carb: the float may be set incorrectly; but sounds more like a vacuum leak, possibly to the distributor or maybe the EGR system isn't working properly.

 

Thanks Abecedarian, I know I can check for vacuum leaks with some ether spray, but what about an EGR issue. Where would I begin with determining if it is working properly? What is it supposed to do when working properly? (not hiccup?)

 

pull the vacuum hose off the top of the egr valve.
put your finger on the hose and verify you can feel vacuum on the hose when you rev the engine up above 1500 rpm's or so. if you feel vacuum then things are working.
then find a way to put a hose on the egr valve and suck on the hose- if the engine sputters and/or dies while you're sucking on the hose the EGR valve is working.

 

Still have this super annoying glitch. When I am on the highway in 5th gear it happens when I am just barely on the throttle. It kinda fumbles around cutting in and out. I was thinking about just eliminating the EGR (UNHOOKING IT) plugging the line etc. Another thing I was thinking might cause it was the vacuum advance. Think that could be it? Or is this a carb issue.

 

I pulled this from another post that was talking about a problem with fuel injected truck doing the same thing.

Can anyone elaborate on the statement? This maybe what is causing my trouble.
