Got the auto tranny out. Put the manual tranny in, and my truck won't start. I jumped the two wires that tricks the computer into thinking its in park. And still no go. So, what do I look for? Lights come on, so the battery works. Check engine light and all dash lights are lit. I haven't hooked up ANY wires to the manual tranny though. As I can't figure out where the ones from the auto tranny are supposed to go and if I even need them.

So, basically, what should I do?

Are you sure you jumped the right plug ?, its a white plug with three conectors on it, and you jump the two that are paralel to each other.

 

Defiantly a mix up with the NSS

and for the life of me i cant remember which ones to jump off hand right now

 

youre supposed to jump the 2 large wires on the large white plug that are right next to each other. did you get those?

 

I jumped the wires on the blue plug. My bad, I'm going to go give it a try in a little while though. Thanks guys!

You don't "need" anymore wires off the 5spd, only things are the reverse lights and the 4wd indicator. Neither of which I have hooked up yet after my swap.

Okay, I jumped those two wires on the big white plug (assuming its the one that goes to the shifter???????????) and still nothing. I jumped the wires on the opposite side too...and still nothing. I ended up blowing an "engine" fuse, and now I don't have a check engine light anymore. So, what do I do?

I can jump the starter from the battery and it will turn over just fine.

 

Either your not jumping the right wires or something else is wrong, we did the same swap on my 86 4Runner and jumped the wires in the white plug and it fired right up.

 

when you say white plug it makes me all confused. Yeah, I see about 5 white plugs right when I open my door. I can't tell you what is wrong. I thought it would be simple.

But, as I can see now, that white plug doesn't have a damn thing to do with anything. LOL

 

The plugs that need to be jumped are located in the passenger side wheel well, around the fuel filter/starter area. Should be a cluster of 4-5 of them if i remember correctly, and the larger round white plug with larger wires than the rest was the one...not 100% on that, trying to think back a few months lol

 

The plug you need to jump is around the starter/fuel filter area, its a round white plug. the plugs under the dash won`t do anything and are now no longer needed with the manual transmission, just tuck them up under the dash and forget about them.

I've been jumping the wrong wires the whole time. And you said it has 3 wires and I jump the bigger of the two correct?

Also, Do I cut the wires before the connector or after? Probably doesn't matter though.

Don't cut the plug if you don't have to, and you don't. Just make a simple jumper wire (about a 4" piece of wire with 2 spade terminal ends on it). Plug it in to the plug, and wrap it in electrical tape or something of the sort to protect it from the elements and from being unplugged.

 

The truck LIVES!!! haha, I'm so excited. Now I just need to put my new pedals in, clutch master cylinder, and the lines and I'm ready to drive! yay!

I'm so freakin excited!

 

Oh yeah, and I'm going wheelin' if I get it running by tonight, and I'll go wheeling tomorrow
