Gauges

I've been thinking of fabbing up a gauge panel to fit in the existing dash panel, but using aftermarket gauges. The existing ones are pretty ratty looking, especially the clear plastic cover. Anyone forsee any problems?I've done it on a couple of very old Fords that I built with my Dad when I was a teenager, but there was no plastic to deal with on those old beasts. Just wondering if it would be worth my time.

I was planning on using the old plastic for a template and using the old gauge panel for the backing to bolt it in place. I'll probably go with autometer gauges or the like, and obviously use a hole saw to place them in the panel. I 'm sending my block in for machine work next week, and as soon as I get the motor assembled that will be my next project. I'll definitely provide pictures when I get the project going. I was just hoping for a little guidance before I jumped into the unknown!
