new motor, new gears?

so i think i might have to re build my motor. which means i will probably just buy a new one and start from there. but what my question is if i put a new 22re in mine then i wont have to change anything because its the same motor. although i have been talking it over and lookin at a DOA motor, or some kinda performance one. i dont know much about the workings of it so my question is if i switch out for a more powerful motor would i have to switch gears and stuff too or will i be able to drive it jus the same and have same off roading specs too. my brother made mention that a different motor might make my gear box wrong and i would have to re do it. can anyone shed some light or would i be able to just drop it in and be fine? since a performance motor is still a 22re or i might get the rte

Just because you put in a fresh motor with more power doesn`t have anything to do with what gears you have. The only time you would need to consider changing gears is if you added larger tires, otherwise nothing will change.

putting in a more powerful motor wouldn't effect your gears. well what size tire do you have?

with 31s and a powerful new motor = no gear change
with 33s its wise to upgrade your gears to 488s

my problem is i need a turnkey, my engine might be shot so i need a drop in and dont feel like spending the money to put a stocker back in it just to want more power in a year or so.. but if i have to then i have to, and lce is just too expensive. and engine builder doesnt seem to sell drop ins, only build kits..

Dear olharleyman,

Hi, HP is 130 to 140 depending on what kind of intake and exhaust you have. Major repairs must be done at our facility, minor ones can be done locally. John

Add a set of 33's and 4.88's you would have a pretty stout truck reasonably priced most likely all cheaper then a DOA or LC motor alone. There are also a cpouple guy's running oregon engine rebuilder's motor's on here now maybe they will chime in and tell us if that motor is what it is claming to be.

yeah after reading about DOA i am pretty sure i wont deal with him. the oregon guys eems alright i might look into that a lil more and talk to them.. price is not as bad either.. only a few hundred more that a normal re built comes for. i wonder what performance mods would work good in their super stock motor

injection over carb and a header with 2" to the cat and 2 1/4 to the rear will make a differance

here's what they say there super stock has for $1,400

The following is a list of the performance options installed in this "SUPER-STOCK" long block engine: New hypereutectic pistons and wrist-pins, over-sized IN&EX swirl-polished, chrome tiped valves, torque RV Crane cam shaft with 425/IN and 440/EX lift, high volume oil pump and a rubber lined steel chain guide for the slack side. On top of all that, a NEW, (not remanufactured) heavy casting head, new timing cover and a full set of high quality gaskets!

I am sure if that's your truck in your avatar you will have no issues with any kind of driving. I am thinking about it for my sas with 5.29's and 35x12.5's and the guy I talked to there assured me that it will be fine for that set up so I can imagine with your set up it would be great

You may want to look into a long travel set up for jumpin that's gonna be way more then your new motor.
