SAS questions

hey guys i'm going to oak ridge to pick up my SFA this weekend but i'm not going to buy one of the marlin or TG kits to swap it. i'd like to just put it under there stock and when i have more time and MONEY, add the lift and all of the other off road parts that come with the kits.

if all i wanted to do was swap it stock, i was told all i needed was a spring hanger kit and the high steer kit. i started looking into what i needed to buy and....

problem: while looking on marlin, they said that a 4 in. suspension lift is required to work with the high steer . is that only marlin's kit or is that every kit?

has anyone on here done a swap like this where you don't buy the big SAS kits and you just pretty much do a SSAS, stock solid axle swap? if anybody has and may have some info on this and how you did it and what parts/kits you needed and used, it would all be greatly appreciated. thanks y'all.

Its been a done. Ive seen 8hr sas's on Pirate, where they just cut out the Ifs and bolt/weld the the whole SA assemply in springs and all in one piece.

You dont need Hi-steer. you should be able to use the stock j-arm setup. And yes you need about 3-4" of lift for hi-steer.

I think all you need is the hanger and the jig/sleeves, for the shackles. Your drive flange might not have the same pattern. Make sure you have the same gear ratios front and back. your front track width will be 3" narrower than the back. Because of the drop hanger you will be taller in the front so you may squat and the d-shaft may be too short. You will need longer brake lines. Thats all I can think of now.

i knew about the axle being narrower, and i knew i'd sit higher in the front (going to take leafs out the rear axle coming with it and add to my rear pack), and i knew about the brake lines and the gears in mine and the sfa are both 4.10s

now my questions, do you know how i would make the steering work?
are you saying when i go get the 85 d shaft that it will be short? how come?

so does everyone agree i should stick it out with the IFS until i can buy something thats full blown SAS or keep at this so i can get more flex now and add to it instead of waiting for freakin ever (college student)

i was just tired of my "kick anal" flex with the IFS and wanted something a little better that could hold me over until i get the money to really do something big.

i do agree with you tofer, i'd love to just buy a kit and go at it. i think i may just a little too anxious to do it. i'd love to have more lift and more flex at the same time!

but if i do more lift now, not sfa and wasting my time and money with something i'm going to get rid of for sure

but if i could sas it now, i'd have a lot better flex and could add as i go... unless the $$$ is that big of a difference.
