2000 5 speed whats it worth?

OK guy's need a bit of advice from you all.
I have a 5 speed trans with 51,000 miles and a guy that wants to buy it but I am unsure of the going rate and a fair deal for it.
Anyone with an idea of what I should ask for it please speak up I see 3.0 5 speed trans going for $700-$1000 so what would you pay for one if you needed one?
Thanks guy's/girls

They can be found at wrecking yards with similar miles for about $3-500, so i would say $2-300 since you cannot offer a warranty.

i know when i was looking for a 5 speed tranny for my 87 pickup, they were $200 (prob. 150k miles). went with a 4 speed with 100k for $50! I remember regularly seeing those transmissions listed (and sold) for ~$500! i'd say a 15 year younger transmission with the same miles is worth more, right?...

You would be right, if they were scarce. However, these things are all over the place. I'm just telling it how I see it based on our price, and pricing from other wrecking yards. If you can get one for $3-500 from a yard, with comparable mileage, and it comes with a warranty, asking that same amount as a private seller makes no sense.

Just my $.02

supply vs. demand= first rule in econ. 101! you'd definitely be right if they are plentiful. (i haven't looked around at all, so i don't know... you'd know better than me, josh)
