98 Tacoma "whine"

Alright I'm a bit worried about my new truck. I tend to worry too much about things but I am truly worried about this. When I accelerate hard, once the motor hits 4-5k, it produces a whining noise, it actually sounds kind of like a turbo spooling. I worry about this because I'm not sure what it is, but my friend told me that his tacoma does the same thing. Should I be worried? What could it be?

EDIT: Been reading on the internet and some say it can come from the intake. Any truth to this? Judging by the size of the intake, it wouldn't amaze me

I have a 99 with the 2.7 that does the same thing. It increases with rpm and sounds like a turbo. I am still trying to diagnose where it is coming from. I have been told to check the a/c comp. and the pilot or throwout bearing. I am going to check this week, I will post if I find anything.

My '95 1/2 does the same thing. I kind of like it hahaha! I have actually been looking for something that replicates a turbo noise. It may be useless, but I love the turbo sounds. By the way a real tacoma turbo is $4,195.00 from sts turbos. Yikes!

Mine does it in neutral or in gear. Pressing on the clutch pedal also makes no difference. As long as the motor is running it will make that noise and go up and down with the rpm.

I just checked some things last night. I removed the belts one by one and found that the noise on mine went away when I took off the alt. belt. So I guess it is the alt., water pump, or maybe the fan? Anyway on my truck it is one of those three and with 240,000 miles I can't complain.
