clutch pedal on the floor

Today when I got in my '88 4Runner I pushed the clutch down and there was no resistance until I was about 1 1/2" away from the floor. It was hard to get in gear, and it didn't really want to shift in to 1st or 2nd.

Normally there is resistance the second I start pushing the pedal down and it normally catches about 1/2 way up, but now it goes to the floor and catches about 1/4 of the way up.

Any ideas about whats going on or what I can do? I know it's a hydraulic clutch but is there any way to adjust anything?

check to see if the clutch master is full, its the smaller cap right next to the master cylinder. If its low, it could be leaking out of the slave cylinder(passenger side on transmission, the line that runs behind the engine or the backside of the clutch master cylinder, which leaves a stream of fluid behind the pedal on the firewall. Its probably a bad/leaking slave cylinder, which you will have to bleed after replacing

Hahaha yeah I'm used to cable clutches. Forgot about that. It was almost completely empty so I filled it and I'm going to look for leaks.

Sounds like a bad clutch master cylinder. Talk to Idanity on here, he just had the same issue. Typically the rear seal leaks, and the fluid goes all over your floor boards. Get that change dout ASAP.

X-2...

just replaced mine...w/parts FROM deatcouger...(thankssomuch btw D.C.)...and it was really easy...now, its all good...
but, if you just filled it back up...you would now have air in your line..so that could create a faster death of the mastercylinder.

Dan-

Got your call, but im at work so can't talk. I see you replaced the master cylinder, so I see three possible problems. #1, bracket is broken. #2, slave cylinder is bad, or #3 Hose popped or broke
