2000 4runner stereo help - speakers =fronts louder than rear?

I installed a new stereo, used a harness and Now i've noticed that the rear speakers are not as loud as the fronts.

I had a 92 4runner that had a pre-amp and I intially didnt have the factory amp power connected, so i rigged the power antennta of the radio to it and like magic the speakers started working.

My question is ... This sounds like the same issue , but the only thing is that the speakers play just at low volume. I would think they wouldnt come on at all like my older 4runner if amp wasnt powered on. ??

Looked at Crutchfield and they have a write up about not being able to use the factory amp and needs to be bypassed... not sure thats all true ???

Anyone have any experiance with this ?

Its true, if you got the stereo from Crutchfield then they gave you the wiring harness that bypasses the old amp. Your new stereo probably has more power than the old amp so you don't need it. Ditch the old factory amp, you can actually leave it in its place incase you sell and swith back to the old stereo. Bypass it using the harness Crutchfield includes in their kits, your speakers should work now.

I installed mine this way.
Another thing you might try is adjusting the Fade from Front to Back and see what works best.

Hope it helps.

You don't need the harnes if you connect the correct wires to each other, you'll need a schematic of the Toyota wires and the ones from the stereo to match things up. I had ordered my stereo from Crutchfield so it came with it. Your wires coming out of the HU should be the amped ones, don't run any preamp wires out of the HU to the speaker, those give no power to your speakers.
I'm assuming that your head unit has an internal amp, most today do.

Glad to help. I don't know about this flashchat thing?

Before you go butchering your poor harness.....here is all you need:

http://electronics-pluz.stores.yahoo...9hainoemr.html

$7 harness that you wire to the stereo. Then, remove the 2 screws holding the pre-amp in, and take it out. Your preamp is useless with aftermarket decks. Once you remove the preamp, you will see the two connectors that the above harness plugs into, and VIOLA! I did this exact thing on my 2000 4Runner, so i know for 100% it works, and those plugs are exactly what you need to make it plug and play.
