Iv had my 4runner for a while now and have done alot of stuff to it..and still doing stuff to it. I just hit 140,000 miles and was wondering if anyone has experienced anything going bad with this many miles on it. I know very little about engine stuff it why im asking.

I just replaced the belts because they started to squeel..they were stock. I also had the upper and lower hosses replaced. My air filter is pretty clean. I check the oil all the time and get it changed every 3000 or so. Ever since Iv owned it I havent done anything engine wise besides those things. Just wondering if I can get any tips on what to look out for in the near future and try to avoid getting stranded on a road trip. Thanks for all the support.

last time the timing belt was done ? how bout spark plugs and wires ?

 

Transmission/coolant flush, diff/xfer case fluid change. Check and grease zerks. Everyone is so worried about the engine, they forget the driveline.

 

It still has a rear diff, and that fluid needs to be changed.

If fresh fluids "start" a leak, not changing them is just buying time. It's going to leak. The only way fresh fluids start a leak is by dissolving gunk or corrosion that is stopping the leak. I'd rather find the leak now rather than out in the middle of nowhere.

 

Had your battery tested lately?

As others have said: timing belt, water pump, seals, zerks, rear differential fluid, spark plugs and/or wires.

Here's a tip, call your local Toyota dealership and ask them to input your VIN into the National Service History database. It will provide copies of repair orders from the last 10 years of all Toyota service visits, regardless of location. If they give you the runaround, call me and I'll be more than happy to do it for you (see sig).

 

x2, that 3.4 is a workhorse: keep changing the oil and filter regularly like you have and it won't let you down.
