I know this has been discussed but I can't find any threads that come close to answering the question of what back spacing is needed for different wheel/tire combo's when running a 1.5 BJ spacer. I've got a '90 pick up and I'm thinking of going to a 16 or 17" wheel. From looking at pics it seems that stepping up wheel size may allow a little more space with the UCA, most notably the 17", if I stick with with a 7 to 9" wide rim and say a 11.5 or smaller width tire as the the larger wheel places the wheel lip closer to the UCA as opposed to the tire.

Another reason for the the 16 or 17 inch wheel is that I'd like to run a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers...heard some very good reviews and they're priced well...and I like to be different!

P.S. I'd like to avoid a wheel spacer.

Thoughts on the larger wheel theory please!

 

I'll take a better look tmr, but its going to be tight, that said, I was able to run front tire chains without issue.

 

When I put on my Bj spacers on my 91 p/u, The UCA was hella close, I even bought wheel spacers to slove the issue, Then I said, Well Since im already in here with this angle grinder, why not grind down the UCA to where it doesnt rub, Problem solved...

 

The lip is smaller than it appears, and it adds strength to the a-arm. I think 1/4" wheel spacers would be a better bet.

 

O i know matt, I ground it down, then some...but yea, 1/4 to 1/2 depending on what wheels and tires, I just went full out with 1.5"

 

That 1.5" spacer directly contributes to the length of the level arm on the t-bars. Translation: your IFS should flex better using wheel spacers than ball joint spacers!! Wheel spacers don't add to wheel travel, but it would increase the tendency of the IFS to flex.
