Auto Tranny Shifting only with lights off?!?!
Heres the scoop i just recently got this 89 toyota 4runner AUTOMATIC 22re and i love it but it has a problem. When i'm driving it with the lights on the automatic trasmission WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS UNLESS I TURN LIGHTS OFF THEN BACK ON!!!! Its the weridest thing ever. But when the lights are off during daytime driving its perfect only at night when i got the lights on it just will no shift over to the next gear unless i turn the lights off then back on. I though it was the Alt but i don't think it is just that. Any ideas for a blow some money on the ALt lol.

I'm not exactly sure right now but the 4runner is a 22re 4cyl ,with manual lockers, and auto main shifter, and 4WD shifter, and shes NON SR5. So not sure maybe i can look her up in a min here...

This is not a funny problem its kinda serious to me. When i'm driving down the road switching my lights on and off on and off on and off just to get it to change gears.......kinda sucks and is more less embarrassing

Ok...... Its at the top of you screen in the light blue bar. It is located in between New Posts and Tread Lightly. If you click on it with your mouse it will almost ask you what you would like to SEARCH.
Also under the search you can click on ADVANCED SEARCH. But given your situation this might be to much for you to handle. So just start off slow with the basic search until you think you can handle the advance search.

Is your charging system in gwo? Sounds to me like it's a voltage drop issue. First thing to verify is that you've got good voltage to the transmission control system with the lights on. If voltage is acceptable, then look at the speed sensor #2 and the solenoids.
Is there anything else that goes flakey with the lights on like gauges? Is there any sort of error code? (don't these transmissions give codes through the OD light?

First my apologies. After doing a search I seem to only find the 340f listed for the 2.4L. Which makes me wonder why this doesnt make this model a direct bolt in for the 3.4 swap. It also makes me wonder why toyota even but the developed the a340h.
So as to your problem, I would try to obtain a wiring diagram. Could be a lose ground somewhere. I would recommend getting a toyota wiring diagram from toyota and not a haynes or chiltons.
Did you purchase the truck with this problem or did it just start happening?
Can you manually shift your trans with the lights off?
