does anyone know what kind of transmission this is? like a g52 or w56? or any other possible toyota transmissions

thats a top shift tranny too eh(i really have no idea because i saw 2 side by side and they were dif but i couldnt tell haha)? i knew it didnt have the same shifter as mine has 6 holes in it.. that only has 4.. thought might be a year difference..

anything major in differences?

 

W56 has a stronger case and is rated for more horses

I would, if you are anything like me you need the strongest parts you can get. How bad is yours, locked up or making noise?

 

wont go into reverse and 5th is ground to shreads. tore case apart today to look at it. but i think i can get another tranny for some gears if need be

 

Thats a forward shift t-case pictured w/ the G52.

THe L series was found in 79-83 4x4s and can not be used with any later generation (crossmember issues).

The G-Series began in 1984 for carbureted (22R) trucks with 4WD.
The G54 is just an updated version of the G52 (stronger bearing and such).

The W-series came in 1985 (for 4WD trucks anyway) equipped with EFI (slightly larger horsepower rating). W-55 came on 2WD. W-56 on 4WD.

THe R-series so far is considered best. The R150F came equipped on turbo'd 4x4 trucks and the R151F came on V6 4Runners. If you've ever cracked both a G-series and R-series tranny apart, you'll notice that the R-series has the LARGEST bearings out of al the trannies listed above and thus is considerably stronger.

However, mating an R-series transmission to a 22R (or 20R, or 22RE) is extremely difficult because the only available bellhousing is the 22RTE 4x4 bellhousing. These are a bit harder to find and a stock 22RE bellhousing (for a w-56) wil NOT fit an R-series tranny. And of course, the v6 bellhousing is different.

Probably unnecessry information for your case, but someone might be curious THis was all learned the hard way by the way, during a 2WD to 4WD conversion using a turbo parts truck.

 

very interesting information.. should have taken all the parts for the turbo truck that a wrecker once offered me.. what about the diesel trucks? i believe thats what this transmission is out of? and i wont have to change my cross member or drive shafts for this to fit? its basically a bolt up install?

U ARE ONE LUCKY DUDE IS U OWN THAT TRANS!
that is the turbo trans.....by the look of that pic it has 2 shifters on the 2nd part os the trans(also know as the transfer adpater)...the only trans with 2 shifters there is the turbo trans...look at the pics on this page...http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/3a.htm

The G series tranny's also have both shifters on the tranny. Most likely a G series.

i was lookin for a pic of the bellhousing.. because if it has a big hole or rubber plug in the bottom that makes it a r series right?
