I tried to search for a writeup on replacing those parts but couldent find anything useful. Just wondering how easy or hard it would be for a non mechanic to do? What other parts I need to buy to get the job done and stuff like that.

The reason for doing it is my truck is pulling to the left really bad and destroying my tires. I'm in the middle of getting some much needed work done to the front end and some engine work...so I can only do a bit at a time when I can afford it. And lately I am having a hell of a time afording it.

I also just got the steering center link recall done, and the dealership recommended I replace my bearings. I just had them repacked so maybe it is time to replace those ugh$$$.

Any write ups or hints for those too?

 

What makes you think they need to be replaced? If money is tight, don't replace stuff that isn't broken! Anyways, here's the instructions:

Sounds like they didn't check/align the toe when they did the recall ... I would take it back and make them fix it.

I'm mostly going on what I am told by mechanics. I do think I may have bent those parts off roading, actually this one day where I hit a big rock in a little mud pit. It drove home a pulling a slight amount that I thought was the road angle or something in my head. Long story, short no money no fixing. Till now.

Toyota couldent do any alignment as there is definetly something loose or messed up. They think the bearings.

I figure I could afford the parts no problem. Installing them is an other matter.

 

there are several members from bc on here, get intouch with them and see if they can help. if you have access to a shop/garage that you can get some heat into, provide sustenance AFTER the work is done and have some tools, id be willing to bet they would help.

doing your own maintenance gets easier the more of it you do. lots of links to fsm's at the top of the page also.

Toyota's are really easy to work on.

x2 on the number of BC members. I'm one of them. Try BC4x4, I'm sure someone is from Kelowna

 

Bearings would be the last thing I would blame a bad alignment on. Idler arm would be first (bushings, specifically), then bent relay rod, then tie rods.

Jack the front of the truck up and with your hands at 12:00 and 6:00 (top and bottom) try to rock the tire. If it feels like you have loose lugnuts, then your bearings need to be repacked or replaced.

Then put your hands at 3:00 and 9:00 and try the same thing. If it feels loose that way, it's probably steering components.
