Can you give a little more detail? By off do you mean the switch or the engine?

You have to hold the clutch cancel button down for it to work. If you just press it, take the key out then start it back up with the clutch.

on my 88 4Runner, I don't have to hold it down.
all I have to do is: turn the ignition on but don't start, press and release the CSC switch, turn the key to start. If I press it again before I start the truck it disables it and I have to either push the clutch down or press the CSC switch again.

I was pulling into the neighborhood and accidentally pressed the button and it lit up, i hit it like 4 times and it wouldnt go off. Truck running fine, I turn it off to go in the house and I come out and try to start it and the motor wont even crank now.

Do you have any lights? Sounds like you blew a fuse. I blew a fuse in the fuse box and it was $3. My truck wouldn't turn over at all. It was pink. lol

okay, if it doesn't start while pushing in the clutch or the button now.

My first bet would be to check the fuses. idk, but that is where i would start.

could the CSC function procedure be different between '88 and '93-'94? I'm very sure I have to hold mine down.....maybe you can either hold it down or do what Abe said...

sounds like the starter solenoid isn't working. Your starter could be spinning and not locking into the flywheel.

Put the truck in neutral and roll it forward or back a few inches and try again. I've had that happen to me before.
