1. I need to change my transmission fluid.
Is there a specific type that I need to look for?
Can I find it at autozone, or should I head to the dealership.
Im thinking about adding some lucas transmission treatment with it as well
because my tranny is starting to slip. Has anyone ever used the lucas tranny treatment, and does it work???

2. I notice that there's a light for RR diff lock, but I dont have a switch to turn it on...
Does my runner have the R diff locks or not? And if not, why is there a light for it in the dash?

Best way to find if you have the diff lock...get under your truck and LOOK.

the RR diff lock is because tacomas and 4runners, actually most toyota vehicles use the same general parts.. steering column switches. etc, it just streamlines effeciency on the assembly line if you can put the same dash and gauge systems in every vehicle so no you dont have it, unfortunately, but that doesnt mean you cant get one, theres several threads about that...
Most tranny fluids are the same red automatic transmission fluids, however if you go full synthetic you run the risk of expansion in the seals and cause leakage.. and i have no clue about tranny treatment.. i only use fuel treatment everyonce in a while.. mostly i dont see the need for it.. routine maintenance prevents alot....

 

If you're not going synthetic then I'd use Toyota.

A fresh change could cure your slippage. I'd try changing first then try additives. I've never had the need to try Lucas.

Rear diff lock was standard on Limited models. Your rear diff light should start to flash once you push the button to engage. Then once the diff is locked the light will remain on. If you don't have a button on the dash then probably on diff lock.

x2 on no RR diff lock. you'd have a button, too- to the left of the steering wheel.

 

There are 3 kinds of people in the world. People that can count. And people that can't.

Do you have an auto transmission or manual? If auto, I'd take it to the dealership or a reputable transmission place and do a flush. For a manual, it's very easy, so just buy some fluid at the dealership and change it out.

 

These products are great. Look for a shop that does a BG power flush. A friend of mine has a shop for high end european cars and this is all he uses. Good stuff. Have gotten the power flush on all my vehicles at one point or another.

lucas works. it works great actually. i use it in a full sized bronco woods buggy
up at the cabin, [to get it outta the way and park it under some other tree]

but bring cab fare everywhere you go until you actually
fix the tranny
