OK wtf?

So I order from 4wheelparts.com a 4" stg 2 pro comp
and a steering stabilizer. ES2000

The truck gets put together well and I take a test drive... I can't turn left because it looks as of the steering stabilizer is reaching it's total length and it's not long enough???


I drive a Hilux Surf. is it not the same as a 4runner when length of steering stabilizer is at it's max?

is the stabilizer a 'u-bolt' mounted one, or mounts to the stock eye on the crossover and the stock receiver on the frame?

are we talking solid / straight front axle or IFS?
if your surf is solid / straight, the IFS stabilizer is not the right one.

Well your lift increases the distance between the steering linkage and the frame doesn't it? If so, then the steering stabilizer will be at a steeper angle than stock and and part of the extended length of the SS is used up already.

I wasn't really impressed with Pro Comp products, its a bit like they did all the R&D after a few wobbly pops.

if it's an IFS lift, the steering linkage does not change.
if it's an SAS, the linkage will change.

if it's a procomp IFS stage II... it's a bolt on affair and even uses the stock steering dampener.

I have come across varying parts for an IFS steering stabilizer from everyone from Rancho to Procomp to even Gabriel, and not one of them had the correct parts to utilize the stock mounts. That's why I asked if it was a u-bolt mounted one (u-bolts on the crossover).

I ended up doing some custom stuff to my 91 2wd and the Procomp works perfectly fine once the mounts were sorted out:

ok with all the minds at work here we will solve this tonight son!!!!!

to get all the facts here we go----

Right hand drive Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4L TD

It does have IFS in the front, with the rear with coils

The rear part of the lift kit went in fine

The front diff drop bracket was too short by about 1" 1/4 (no big deal, I'll get one fabbed or work it out with longer bolts and spacers...)

The exhaust was right in the way of the centre drive shaft after dropping the diff so the centre drive shaft was disconnected for the time being after I get the exhaust tubing cut and welded straight pipe out the side (under running board) working around the centre drive shaft.

When the steering stabilizer was put in it was pretty much at it's full reach, so I guess I feel pretty dumb because I guess it should go in with the wheels straight and it should have 50/50 play compress/decompress correct??

I just feel kinda pissed because ordering the parts I figured the phone rep for 4wheelparts should of known, I'm not the only one with a Hilux. Yet still it is my responsibility and my wacky right hand drive...

Ok so I took the stock (old) steering stabilizer with me and got a monroe one. I stretched both out to compare total decompressed length and they were the same.

They both have fish-eyes on both ends...

Anyone remember when they installed their OME or Rancho or Monroe etc... stabilizer, were they fully stretched out when installing with wheels straight? Or did it bolt in compressed about half way??

I have the same set up on my 90 rhd 4runner here are a couple pics maybe you can find something you mounted wrong or it will help you figure it out.

what you do is turn the wheel locked to the way the shock is at full out

ss full extend with that you turn the wheel to full lock so its where it should be

bolt it in then try to go locked the other way see if that works maybe

SO GET THIS!!!!!

I called pro-comp and told them I got the ES2000 part no.219-200

they said I need 219-500, the difference is 3" in stroke!!!!!

so 4wheelparts.com sent me the wrong part...


Now I gotta work on getting the diff drop bracket to meet the diff... spacers+longer bolts I think...

Why the hell didn't you tell them the main drop bracket was too small aswell?
4wheelparts is really slacking these days.

Ok next problem, front sway bar looks like it's in the way on the front drive shaft.

Harley did you have that problem too?

took the sway bar out and re-did the exhaust. Mounting the winch was ok after fog light re-locate and welding some mount for the fairlead, SHE IS DONE!!!!
