I READY TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS A CRAP IDEA OR NOT?

SINCE the e-brake uses two separate "levers" to pull each rear drum, would it be possible to grab one of them w/ a ratchet tie down and have sort of a 'poor man's traction control'.........just thought of this as I was scurrying around down there getting filthy haha.

What happens in the later years of the 3rd gen with traction control? Doesn't it apply the brake just to the tire that's spinning?

 

Not a stupid idea, people have been doing that for years. Google cutting brake and you will see manual and hydraulic implementations of your idea.

 

The newer Tundras actually use this method in their auto lsd setup.
It may work, but depends on whether or not you can actually lock up that wheel hard enough.
Of course there is the possibility that you could damage the brakes on the locked up side with too much force, either applied by the cable, or the drive line, things might begin to bend in a rear shoe setup. The newer tundras are rear disc brakes.

 

I've seen several ppl who can manipulate their e-brake while gassing through sand and light mud. I doubt it would work real good if you were rockcrawling

 

use the ebrake level as poor mans diff lock. easy spinning wheel is always the powered one, put some resistance on it, makes other one turn.
