I'm looking for a trail to take my stock '86 4Runner on. I live in Denver, and have a little wheelin' experience. I tried slaughter house with it, but turned around at the summit when I saw the 1' pot holes. So, are there any semi-chellenging trails close to Denver that anyone knows about?

 

Many, many trails.

At this point, you may run into snow however.

Look at Bill Moore Lake.

 

Whereabouts in Denver?

Your rig should handle Slaughterhouse fine ...

I'm in extreme SW Denver (C-470 & Bowles). When I went to slaughterhouse there were pot holes that almost come up to my knees when I stood in them. Maybe I went after someone tore it up, but it looked pretty serious.

 

Here's some more possibilities for ya. I'm not sure what the snow levels are like on the trails but China Wall is low, around 8,000ft.

Slaughterhouse is one of the easiest trails to get through with most any stock truck with a bit of decent ground clearance.

 

I hear ya. All it takes is one inexperienced yahoo to spin out a hole. I guess it's just human nature to give it more gas when one does not actually know how to pick a line. Wheeling is by far one of my favorite things to do and I greatly appreciate the work that good wheelers, tree lovin groups, and the forest service does to maintain the trails and keep them open. Thanks for all of you that do the same! I'm not a big fan of wheeling alone, but if I were there, I probably would have turned around too. Better to save the trail for another day than to get stuck, damage your rig, or worse get hurt.
