Mexican Road Trip

Last May I took road trip around Mexico. I know Baja pretty well, but wanted to see the interior of Mexico. I drive a 85 Toyota pick-up so I fit in pretty well, especially with the black tinted windows. I made it all the way down to Mexico City and Puebla. I am looking forward to doing another trip like this, but through Central America. I can think of no vehicle that I would rather travel with. I love my Toyota!!

For the 'Tube, just put in the code after the = sign into the tags listed in you tool bar above where you type.

If anyone is interested in looking at the route that I took, this is a link to a Google Map that I made.

I took a lesson from Allan Wisebecker on that one an made sure never to turn by back on pumping surf. I didn't leave the coast until the swell was dropping and I was surfed out.

is the wagon 4 wheel drive? Baja has some of the worst roads that I have seen any were? Datsun could be rigged with off road modifications I imagine.

What I love about my toyota is that it is tough as nails, and is really common. Parts are ready available and every one in Mexico has an uncle or cousin with a truck just like mine. I got the windows tinted dark as soon as I crossed the border in Nogales and felt like a local. Nobody could see into the cab, and even with the Cali plates, I seamed to blend in pretty well.

i have found some datsun parts in bigger towns

it did breakdown(wheel bearings) the day AFTER i got home.

Hey Phyl,

What is Belize like in terms of roads? I took a bus through there years ago, but did not pay much attention to the driving. I would really like to see some ruins and get off the main tourist track. Is your B&B near the water? some Mayan ruins? maybe a cinote? And how did Belize end up English speaking Man?
I can't tell you how much I want to drive down to your neck of the woods. My Central American backpacking trip was a life changer. I just wish I could go back and do it again with more time, money and cultural insight.
What is the border crossing into Guatemala like? I remember the border crossing from Guatemala into Honduras as one of the shadiest places I have ever been (Chicimula).
