Just finished my motor swap with a new 22re, its runs but i have no oil pressure. its exactly the same as the old engine. It came with a new pump installed by www.sunwestautomotive.com . I replaced the oil pressure sensor. When i turn it on the pressure gauge comes off of the peg but its just below the operating arch. what can i check or change without ripping the motor apart again?

 

I suggest removing the the oil pressure sending unit off the block and cranking the motor till oil comes out. I had to bleed air out of my block once to do this

 

Interesting, is this just a 22re thing?

 

What about the engine?New,wore out,rebuilt?Is the pump new?Could just be the pressure reliefe valve stuck open.Screw the oil filter off and crank it for a sec,it should shoot oil across the shop.Or at least drain the pan quickly.

That was for my 3.4L I would imagine it being the same both v6 and 4cyl. But if he has oil coming out from there (be sure to cover the area with a cloth to protect from the spray) its his gauge that is bad

 

originally we wired the sensor wrong and fried it there was no moment on the gauge. i replaced the sensor and now the needle comes off the zero mark but still can doesn't register on the pressure arch

 

you should get an oil pressure gauge from Harbor Freight if you have one near you they are like $10 and screw it in where your oil pressure sender goes and see what your pressure is at idle and when you rev it. Might be that when it was wired wrong it blew the gauge in the dash. My pressure gauge always reads low and I just rebuilt my 22re about 2 months ago so I got an oil pressure gauge and checked it and it was perfect and made me feel much better about it.

 

Don't trust a Toyota oil sending unit, once they get up in age they tend to crap out

just an impromptu check, but if you remove the valve cover and start the engine and oil sprays all over the place, you've passed most other tests since low oil pressure will not pump enough to get oil up to the valves.

 

How about just the cap, will that tell you?

So you replaced the engine and you still have no pressure reading on the dash gauge?

Did you ever think to check the pressure with a test gauge?

 

My guess is that you may have fried the gauge in the dash. I replaced my engine and did just that. I confirmed that I had good oil pressure by buying a mechanical gauge from a local parts shop for $10 (the same as 88T4R's and Targetnut's suggestion). I had to bleed the hose, but after a few minutes I showed normal oil pressure.

If you test as described and have pressure at the block, you have a bad sensor and/or a bad gauge (or wire in between them). If you have no pressure, you may have oil pump issues (like the pressure releif valve described above). My bet is on a blown gauge.

Did the new engine have a pressure switch or a pressure sensor? The switch is for an idiot light, the sensor is for the gauge. If you installed a switch in your vehicle, it shorted the gauge and blew it up. Replacing the switch with the correct sensor will not fix the gauge. You would need to fix the gauge or replace the gauge cluster.
