Was wondering whether anybody knows whether any of the Aluminum calipers off a lexus or something like that would fit on our 3rd gens. Looking to lighten the load a little and was curious.

Would be great just to be able to use some LS 400 calipers from the junk yard for $100 and drop the weight from the heavey iron ones we have.

LS400 calipers are 1 Piston Sliding Calipers. Huge downgrade.

MKIV Supra TT Calipers could possibly fit. They were made for 320mm x 30mm rotors. Tundra's have a 319 mm x 28 mm rotor. If the offset and mounting ears lined up, it would certainly work with OEM components.

But unless you tow, why would you want to go through the hassle of doing this?

Absolutely not. Do you recall the Ford Explorer debacle? Aluminum/Nitrogen.

 

Sorry--this thread got going in another spot. Thanks for the numbers though. I would like to start putting my truck on a diet.

Premise being the lighter the truck the less you break. And partially because of the novelty (S.C.). Figured i could get some from the junkers and be in good shape.

 

Seems like an odd place to try to lose weight. How about that heavy ARB bumper in your avatar? Lighter brakes won't make that truck go faster unless you take them off completely.

 

Strength where needed is all i can say--just a tinkering kinda project.....with a a little benefit

 

not sure I really understand this either. Seems like that would be the last thing you'd try to cut weight on, like AFTER you already did everything possible.

some possibilities.

If you travel by yourself or with 1 other passenger most of the time, remove the rear seats.

only fill the gas tank half full

leave your spare tire at home

buy a scooter

or buy a very high MPG car for a DD and use the 4runner for the trails.

but it does seem odd that you are so concerned about weight, and then ADDED weight up front.

please tell us more about why you want to do this, maybe we will understand better. As of now, I bet most people who read this are a bit confused!

OK--ok--so this is just a side project--something to tinker around with. Hobbyfornication--i need the bumper to go off road--it works and i have used it. If i didnt have that bumper the front of my truck would be pretty trashed.

If i was able to pick up some calipers that were Alum at the junk yard for say $20-30 bones--clean them up and bolt them on--then partially it would satisfy my lust for odd ball knowledge of interchangability and weigh about half as much as the old calipers.

Gas MPG is really not an issue with me but i am doing it just to see how light i can actually get a trail ready rig. Thats it--just tooling--playing--acting like a kid in the mud.......

I have no wife, girlfriend(that requires maintenance), or kids--i have to find something to waste my money on arbitrarly and capriciously (spell check)
