Help me with my clutch, it is gone!!

I just rescently bought an 86 4runner with the 5 speed 22re. I have diven a little and everything works fine. I drove over to Walmart ( I live in the middle of nowhere so that is a 45 mintue trip one way) did my thing, started coming home, stopped at one more place, and then came out to the 4runner to head home and my clutch no longer worked. Luckily I was able to get home by shiifting with the gas pedal, but I am just learninga bought yota's. Teach me a little about the clutch linkage on this thing. I don't think the clutch went out because it was just all of a sudden. Any suggestions. Thanks.

No clutch "linkage". Its a hyrdaulic clutch.

Your master cylinder or slave cylinder have likely failed.

try this link to Online Toyota Factory Service Manuals:
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html

the first one covers 85-94 4Runners and Trucks. You will find the stuff you need there, after a little searching..it is a 58MB download but well worth it...

You might as well replace the slave, master cylinder, and check the lines.
Check the master by taking off the slave and then hold your thumb on the line. Have someone press the clutch pedal and brake fluid should come out with hefty pressure. If you get a new master, do this before you put the slave on to check if its good. I got a "rebuilt one" and it was broke when i got it.

Sorry, I had a little bit of a premature posting problem I followed the lines, I did not know it was hydraulic, found where it goes into the transmission and that is what blew out. Now I just have to find that part.

I bought both the master and slave cylinders from Napa for under 50$
