85 22re blowin black smoke

85 22re blowin black smoke

my truck is blowin black smoke when i rev it up, smokes like a diesel, also it blows white blue smoke, but not has bad has the black smoke. My guess is runnin to rich, this is my first fuel injected toyota. where do I start to fix the black smoke. any opinons would be helpful

It could be the coolant or 02 sensor but I would also look at the
cold-start injector and time switch for proper operation. It appears
that the engine is running too rich. Have you checked for codes yet. Is
the air filter element in good shape or is it filled with crud?

Chances are it's either the coolant temp sensor or the AFM is malfunctioning. Also check fuel pressure regulator. When the diaphragm goes bad, it'll piss fuel out of the vacuum hose nipple at idle.
