Unhappy Engine Rattles like a Diesel After 3.4 L Rebuild

Help! I recently had my 96 Toyota 4Runner V6 3.4 L engine rebuilt. Everything is fine, but my engine has this annoying sound coming from the fan clutch/ air intake area. It makes the truck sound as if it were a "quiet" diesel. Does anyone out there know what this may be.

Maybe a valve adjustment is needed?

What type of pistons were used? Some forged pistons often have piston slap until warmed up. Maybe machine work? Other than that, I agree with MTL_4runner.

Would this also cause the engine to lose power or acceleration. The knock sensor is setting off the check engine light now. Would valves being out of adjustment cause this problem?
