I've searched on this site and havn't found the answers i am really looking for yet so i ask you guys for advice. i have a 95 runner bone stock. I would like to upgrade my stereo and speakers to a set that sounds good! i am not into the bump bump that many younger people are but i just want a system that sounds goood! going 65 on the highway i can barely hear my radio! do you guys have any suggestions? also i am on a pretty strict budget, i don't need a 1000watt system that will rattle windows, just a nice one that sounds really good. also do i need to upgrade all the speakers in my runner or just a few? any help would be great fella's!!!

 

Well with car audio, you get what you pay for, plain and simple. Case in point, right now I have a $60 CD player wired to a set of $80 door speakers... The sound is great from the speakers, but the CD player has issues (faceplate hardly ever lights up, and seems to be temperature sensitive).

For decent audio equipment at an afordable price, I'd have to recommend Sony Xplode products. You can pick a lot of their stuff up at a Walmart for pretty decent prices and they have the quality of every other Sony product. I used their CD/MP3 players, door speakers, amps, and subs, and have NEVER had any issues with any of them, and they all have sounded and worked great.

I would use a pioneer head unit (check out their AVIC series just for fun), and probably go with their speakers as well if you are on a tight budget. make sure you buy a wiring harness adapter so that you dont have to splice into the factory harness. I would definitely go ahead and replace all of the speakers. also, and this is the biggest thing, EBAY is your absolute best friend in the realm of car audio. always awesome deals on stuff. most sellers have great customer service as far as returning stuff if it is damaged on arrival or just not what you want. I have personally bought $1k in amps for about 300 off ebay, and been happy with them for 3 years. good luck

 

anybody know of any kits where maybe all the speakers i need come in one kit to cut down on the confusion? will i need a amp?

 

first find out what you have, i think you got the ole, 4inch in the dash and 5.25's in the rear cargo area. well how cheap you wanna go? do you want 300 watts or 25? there are alot of questions here.

 

In all of the years I have played with audio I don't know of any one size fits all kits for your runner or any other vehicle.

You can start by using the Crutchfield link given above to find out what size of speakers are in your runner. I use it all the time when I need to know what will fit. I never order from them because their prices are WAY too high, but their service and accessories are excellent.

Once I know the size I need I go to eBay and check their used speaker selection. I won't pay 100's of dollars for speakers when I can get great used speakers for half the price.

What are you going to do for power? Run the speakers off the head unit? This will determine what power handling you need to get in the speakers.

You'd just have to adapt for the speaker sizes that come with it. If you're not "great" with installs, you may want to tackle replacing your stocker 4 inchers in the dash and just skipping the rears and putting a small box or two behind the rear seat for a set of 6x9s or something. The rears were kind of a pain to replace, having to pull the plastics and then cut to adapt for a bigger speaker (wasn't settling for a 5.25 after all that work).

Crutchfield has some good deals if you look for them. I got a Dual CD head unit with all the installation gear for $99 and Infinity 4" speakers on sale for $29 and free shipping. So for my time plus $130, I now have a CD player with an an Ipod connection and new speakers. If you buy the head unit at Walmart you still need the wiring harnesses unless you make your own, so when I added up the costs Crutchfield was cheaper.

My setup is not fancy but it works great for me. When I pulled out the stock speakers all the rubber had disintegrated. All that was left was the paper cone which explained the increadible buzzing sound I was getting before the new gear was installed.

 

ok i guess that brings up my next question, anybody know off the top of their head what sizes the stock speakers are? how many of them....etc???

What I did was use the Crutchfield site to look up the speaker sizes I needed for my '85 then found them for less some place else. I run a JVC radio and then can plug in adapters in the back to control either a CD changer or iPod from the head unit. I have a JVC HD radio in my DD and really like that unit. With 70 watts the radio will drive the existing speakers loud enough to hear on the road.

The PO of my 4Runner had put some Jensen 6x9s in the rear, so I only replaced the fronts with a pair of 4" coaxials. I found Crutchfield listed a 4T speaker for the front but I found a regular 4" fit fine.

 

if you want soundng good and cheap well get the blaupont 6x9's and there 5.5's there the clear blue ones kinda old but i still have mine and there all in the truck now well one 6x9 is the other rear is still stock as it works

plus i have a jvc avx-2 dvd head in mine to so yeah

 

c couple of you guys have reccommended 6x9's, will they fit? without modding i mean, i would prfer to due this without modifying but will consider it perhaps!

 

X2 on Crutchfield. They have deals but the reason I recommend them is the service. They also give you all the install stuff like brackets, harnesses, and awesome INSTRUCTIONS. It made my install go really smooth.

ok i looked at crutchfield and it says i have 8 speakers total in my truck is this right? should i replace all of them or just the main ones for better sound? i am not looking for a bumping syatem just a nice quality sound that i can hear on the highway!
