Thinking about waterproofing my interior

ok i was watching dantes peak today while on the treadmill, and got to thinking. what if i did to my truck what was done to that burban in terms of putting in a snorkel so i can cross stuff like that? it led up to the fact that water would be coming in. and i dont want that. so heres my question... would there be a way to totally waterproof the interior so even if im in so deep the water is to the windshield, the cab will be totally dry. anyone ever have any success with this? oh, and for the record, i LOVE that burban that pierce drives in that movie.

Water repellent in a can?

I think you should worry about all the electrical components in the engine bay, before the cab.

well yeah. naturally. encase all the wiring and connections in watertight tubes or something. i guess i didnt think it all the way through... as soon as i have a good job im gonna start lookin into it...

I dont have any good suggestions other then the fact that i would do an ecu relocation like 4crawler. EDIT: Just incase.
Cant find the link but good luck with the waterproofing.

Just make sure your computer is up in the glovebox....other than that there isnt too much to worry about...just make sure all your seals are good.....

If you sit in the water long enough you're gonna get water in no matter what

The biggest place for water to come in is where the steering wheel goes through the firewall. I've had that happen once, it felt like someone was dumping a bucket out on my feet.

ok. when i was on the treadmill, i started thinkin again. (seems i do my best thinkin when im exercising). started thinking of the old army underwater tanks. about how they perfected the waterproofing, but just couldnt perfect the amount of pressure the tank could take, so they scrapped the project. maybe i could do something similar, since i have electronics in my cab, and if im in the water, i dont want my stereo and stuff getting soaked. i dont feel like spending more money on new stuff, but mostly i dont want to get shocked.

and soldering the ECU wires should be okay, right? i know those wires are very sensitive

HOLD EVERYTHING. Are we not short on Money right now?????????? Dude, I am going to throw out one thing and then shut up.

My suggestion is to just stave off the bills for a few more weeks get in the Navy and start your New life and never look back.

If water is as high as your stereo you have other problems!

If you have stereo equipment (amps. etc) you can mount them on the back wall

THey have enough lead to move iirc, could be wrong tho.

Yes there is enough wire to move into the glove box.....I would NOT recommend cutting and re-connecting your ECU harness (thats just asking for problems later on)

Well, let me tell you then, i am asking for problems then.


After that fire i had, we ended up cutting and splicing the harness in a lot of places....Been about a year ago.

Only a temp fix anyways with wanting to do that 3.4 swap and all!

With my financial aid i get from the college this year, thats going in the bank for possibly such a great occasion as a 3.4!! MAYBE!

Well cutting it and reconnecting it isnt to hard, just alot of wires and making sure you do it right. Soldering it would be a mess, crimp connectors are what I would use. But you gotta make sure its done right, if not and the crimps come loose enjoy trying to figure out which wire it is.

I had an issue with my headunit, kept cutting out on hard bumps. I finally recrimped all the connectors and bingo its been fine since.

X2 on making sure it is connected right.

My grandpa did mine, and he knew what he was doing.

But if there i enough slack, why bother cutting them at all?

If you can solder good, i say go for it.

I have the worst time attempting soldering anything (usually involves burns and the connection sucks!!!!) so i prefer crimping.

Every person at every auto store i have ever talked to says to heat shrink the connections, but ive never done that either.
