1988 std cab with clunking noise in 4x4

I need some help I'm a little lost and don't have the cash to have Toyota look at it to tell me whats wrong and charge me.

I was out wheeling and locked my hubs when I got back in and engaged the
transfer case to hi and lo upon acceleration it made clunking noises and wouldn't barley move

I examined the truck and saw that the stabalizer bar mount to the frame on driver side was missing a bolt but don't see how this could be the problem. I examined more carefully and did see on the driver side of the front differential where the halfshaft mates to the diff there was some gasket looking material like a worm coming out from in between. Everyhing else seems to be fine. No leaks what so ever. I rotated the frt driveline by hand and the cv's rotated freely. This problem only occurs when I lock the hubs. Should I tear apart the hubs and rebuild? New wheel bearings needded? Please assist any help is appreciated.wheel drive trucks with only 2wheel drive just arn't my fancy!@

Thanksm YOTATECHERS

I checked this again last night and noticed then when I lock the hubs even in 2 wheel drive it acts the same clunking forward until it stops and won't move. Any suggestions? Do I need new locking hubs? Bearings? Any suggestions would help.

Can you pinpoint where the clunking is coming from? Midship (transfer case) or in front of you?

The not being able to move sounds almost like the transfer case is bound up from lack of fluid or a stretched chain or something. If you put it in 4WD with the hubs unlocked, does it do it?

I tested and found the following:
I can put it in 4wd without the hubs being locked and there is no sound or drag it lowers the gear ratio as normal but of course it doesn't lock the front end to turn in 4wd. When I lock the front hubs and keep the truck in 2 wheel drive it clunks to a stop as well in 4hi and 4Lo.
I'm leaning towards there is a problem in the differential or hub assembly like the bearings. Please help with any suggestiaons.

It sounds like from the front differential area can not be sure I'm going to have my friend lay underneath and drive and see if he can pin point wher the noise is coming from

LOL, there is no other way to be sure wher the noise is coming from. I'll keep you posted I've done the lay under the truck method many times before no injuries as of yet! Thanks
