She's going to save your tuckus, again ...

In Sept I paid $472 to machine both heads (3VZE), replace the exhaust valves, and for the gasket set I needed to install them. That included adjusting the valves, which is a pain to do yourself because you end up with a collection of valve shims. I did get quotes well north of $900, so it really pays to shop around.

On that note, be sure you're clear about what is included (pressure test, flattening the head, replacing the valve guides, etc. )

So it sounds like the quote I have is decent if it includes all the "RIGHT STUFF". I was just checking out parts train .com for some items and saw something confusing to me.

Cylinder head bolts from fel pro for 27 bucks per side and another companies for like 160 complete. Is there a difference that would warrant such a drastic change in price?

SUPPLY AND DEMAND IS USUALLY THE PRICE DIFFERENCE, check what your getting and make sure they sell what they are saying their selling too....

holy hell, some of you people got bent over and drug across the coals on those prices. I guess theres a big diffference in prices in different parts of the country. Ive never paid over $200 for a full head rebuild including machining. Usually to just have the heads decked are under $75, depending on how many cylinders.

well i paid about 250 for a 22re head with all new valves and guides and seals, my original quote was about 125 before we realized that all of the valves were worn beyond machining, and that the guides were also badly worn. so considering only 3 cylenders per head and 2 heads, i would estimate anywhere between 200-450 depending on the condition of your heads to be rebiult.

I paid $350 for:

heads decked
heads cleaned
pressure tested
valve job (incl seals I provided)

it has been a year and about 10k miles since I put it all back together and it has been running strong since.

Definitely shop around, and don't just limit yourself to mechanics or their recommended machine shops. Call any machine shop you can find, they can all the do the work, and will sometimes charge a lot less.
