It's time, the headgasket is going and I think the best idea at 256K would be to rebuild it now. Any recommendations around the Portland Metro area?
I'm in Tigard but I would drive a good distance for a machine shop that does good work.

are you planing on doing the work yourself if so then engbldr is very good about his parts and your corner auto zone can give you the little odds and ends

if you wanna send it out to do it i live in milwaukee so thats a lil more of a drive for ya lol but i can do the work in little as one week ( if parts are here to start)

Just drop a 1.3 geo motor in that savage. Then every body will wonder why you get such good gas mileage, and why you are pulling all the hills in low range.

Info appreciated, there are quite a few shops around Portland that will get you a rebuild or crate motor.
I see a ton of Ebay sellers and shops offering what I need. Knowing they are legit helps.

I am finally replacing the motor in my '90 pickup. It dropped compression on a cylinder (I haven't figured out what gave yet, probably a valve). Anyways, I bought a brand new long block that comes with new head, valves, cam, piston, rods, crank, block and with upgraded steel timing chain guide rails, plus upgraded steel head gasket. It got here 4 days after ordering, fully assembled, all I have to do is swap covers, and accessories. Not only do I not have to do any actual motor work, but it comes with a one year warranty as well. With shipping it was around $1,785 from japanengine.com. Talk to Allen there, he was very good with me, spent the time and answered all of my many questions.

Crate motors are an option I've been looking over also. I like the idea of having the truck back in a short time vs. the weeks it will take for a rebuild.
I'm trying to get up enough money right now actually to get a 4 door double cab Tacoma since the family has grown and the truck bed could really come in handy when things are too big for the 4runner back area.

 

Look at sunwest in medical lake wash., and check the warrantys.Check his specials on ebay,Mile will do any custom stugff you want.

Hmmmmm.... I liked that idea too of 'ready to go', .... as many know, it didn't work for me too well! lol. I'm sure some of the Oregon ones are great, as is 22reperformance.com(lil pricey but good stuff w/more power).... Just RESEARCH and ask some of those who've used them "any issues?" ... and even research on the Yellow Pages, BBB, etc. It's a pretty decent investment, aught to be sure, right?

Far as me, yeah, I got screwed, but it ended in me nearly completely rebuilding(including much of machining) a motor that's running WAY better than the one I got raped for(then lost a year and MUCH MORE $ over in the interim)... The one I just did?>> all for around 850$, including new deluxe timing kit(w/oil and h20 pump), replacement block, crank, machine work, Hastings-USA Rings, Sankai Bearing Set(old-new stock), flywheel done, Control arm bushings out and new in, head COMPLETELY rebuilt with mang. bronze guides and ALL new valves, viton seals and dual layer racing springs, gaskets mostly from Putney's, engnbldr and Autozone Felpro258FPT Permatorque HG(kinda pieced it together over a couple weeks from all I've learned on HERE...and through experience). Doesn't leak a drop, purrs like a throaty kitten and the most important part, for me, personally,..NOW?>>> after all that>> I could fix most anything wrong with it, even on the road, with the right tools and a cell phone and my AAA Premium! hahaha.. (I know, for some, it's just more practical to buy it "re-2-go" lol. NO DOUBT, that's not a bad idea, either... Just please, research a LOT? )

your in the minority, obviously you haven't had a problem with his motor yet, but many many have had issues with his engines including his lack of warranty in which he advertises. The guy is simply a moron. Don't believe me, do a search on here for them.

Or maybe you have since someone BUMPED A 3 year old THREAD of someone who was looking for a rebuild. I THINK HE REBUILT IT ALREADY !!!!!!
