Ball joint spacers again

I searched and found tons of threads on the subject, But want I want to know is how will they hold up to 35's and a trip through the rubicon, I have done Many many trips throught the con with solid axle rigs.. But the new rig I am building I am going to keep the IFS for more Of a multi purpose rig, it will still be locked both ends, dual cases with 4.7's in the rear and 35 inch BFgs.. I know how to wheel and dont beat on my rigs to hard.. If they are too weak I will sas the rig, Give me your real world WHEELING experiance with ball joint spacers.. thanks in advance

The balljoint spacers are not the weak link in your front end. You could wheel them as hard as you want and they won't do anything. Its just a spacer.

You will have weak links in your IFS, Idler arm, tie rods etc. But the BJ spacer will not be one of them.

well for the most Part I figured that, But also thought there may be extra load on the balljoint, Or maybe those long bolts that travel through the spacer, was also kinda thinking, Yep it is just a spacer, I aluminum spacer that I was thinking might crack, Break and such under heavy load, Kinda like cheap lift blocks.. I just want real world users to pipe up and tell me how it has gone Thanks

PM AxleIke here on the board. He's got one of the more capable (read: wheeled hard) early IFS rigs on here. He's running SDORI BJ spacers, and he'd be able to give you an honest review of them.

CV boots & the idler arm are what will take the most abuse because of the spacers.

Did not get a PM, but here goes:

For reference, the rig is an 87 4runner, with 4.88's, 33's, ARB's at both ends, and dual cases with 4.7 rear case.

I had significant difficulty with using the Ball joint spacers as lift blocks. Broke lots of steering parts, and even a braced idler arm.

I then scaled the lift down to factory ride height, leaving the spacers in. This gave me added travel, but left my steering at factory angles, and things seem to hold together a lot better.

If you are looking to run 35's, my recommendation is to use the BJ spacers for as little lift as possible, and either run a BL, or tub the fenders.

FWIW, a member of my club (Rising Sun) just ran the Rubicon in a 3rd gen pick up truck, (Want to say 93, but could be off) with BJ spacers, dual ARB's, and a single 4.7 case on 33's. He broke his leaf springs, but the IFS held up just fine. I'm fairly sure he is running little to no lift.
