door molding is loose on limited '96

It seems to have worked it's way loose near the front of the driver side door - I think when it gets hot it expand and rubs when the door opens. Any idea how to fix this?

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything.

Thanks for your time.

yank it off, clean all painted surfaces with alcohol swab, swab out the molding, let dry, reinstall. if it still fails, get new parts

also rubber doesn't expand when hot it contracts
test this theory by taking a rubber band, hanging something from it,
and grabbing a lighter and heating the rubber. it will pull upward.

By Molding I meant the big plastic piece that covers the bottom part of the door with on the limited '96 - it has come loose from the door in the upper left hand corner - what can I reattach it to the outside of the door with? I don't want to cause a permanent problem...

I guess it isn't really a "molding"

OK, so the limited trim is coming loose. What is happening is there is some 3M double sided tape at the very top of the cladding and the adhesive is letting go. Dont worry as it will not fall off since there are many clips holding the cladding to the door. The best fix is to take off the interior door panel so you can access the clips that attach the cladding to the door. Unclip all of these and then get a hair dryer and evenly distribute a little heat at the top of the cladding to loosen up the adhesive of the tape. It should come off pretty easy.
To replace the tape, you can actually get the part from toyota or just go buy some 3m double sided tape. Put it all back together.

FSM = factory service manual. (or something like that). There are a bunch for taco's on the net and 2nd gen 4Runners, but I have not come across any 3rd gen 4Runner FSM's (online that is)
