While driving, the whole shaft that the fan and water pump pulley is mounted on came sliding out the front of the engine. This looks bad. I cannot find any good exploded views on this in any of the FSM links that I have. I'm pretty sure repairing it involves the parts that Toyota sells as a group called the " Fan shaft housing assembly" or something like that. Not really sure though. Anyone have any help whatsoever on this, or can anyone explain what part went bad to cause this, and what parts to get t fix it?

Yeah sometimes called the fan bracket or fake water pump. Hang on to your check book for the price at the dealer.

There are cheap aftermarket brackets from China for sale on ebay all the time, but quality is sometimes not so good. Mine is holding up so far, but I now have an e-fan which takes a lot of stress off the bearing/bracket.

I too placed one of these China fan mounts on the sons '91 4runner. Doing fine after 2k miles. If you have lots of miles, you might want to ck the upper cam belt idler pulley. A bearing grinding noise from the upper cam area will tell you this needs changing. When I got the sons 4runner in San Antonio, the guy had swapped out the engine for one with a supposed 100k miles and had the heads redone. He unfortunatley used all the ancillary parts from the original engine with 208k miles, so I'm replacing something on his car every couple months.

This fan bracket failed on me, and the mechanic said he'd never seen nor heard of such a failure. So I take a special interest in your problem.

When your $10 EBay bracket fails, it will take the alternator belt with it (not too bad), the power steering belt, (bad) and the fan (not too good). And maybe the radiator too (as the fan tilts forward into the radiator) (really bad). For me, it happened at what we would call an "inopportune time," making that $10 sound like not much of a deal.

You can get this part from Rock Auto for $93.79 (made by Dorman). (Rock calls it a Engine Cooling Fan Spacer Kit ) Your EBay bracket is used, meaning someone removed it from a vehicle. For a reason. When the bearing overheats you'll first learn of it when you hear the fan blade ticking against the radiator.

I'm biased, but given the amount of work necessary to replace the part I'd spring for the $100 part. And use the EBay part to make a really nice lazy susan.

 

So are you saying that no one sells a good used part? You know there are a lot of people that actually sell used parts for a reason besides them being bad.

 

To Whom it may Concern : Ive Done most of my own work on all my autos. I needed a Fan pulley Bearing Bracket as the 22 yr. old 1 finally seized. I was happy to find it in stock at auto zone. I put it in. 1 month later, 350 miles, its seized. I have replaced 100s of belts in my life, & YES it was installed properly. Initially I thought it was the fan clutch, so i bought 1. once i tore it down, & i realized it was the NEW DORMAN bracket that was broken, i compared the New Fan clutch to the 22 yr. old Aisin. If you think theyres no difference, or you dont know what the Difference is on auto parts. Its like buying a flashlight at the 99c. Store, or Getting a mag lite. Even if it was the Fan Clutch that went out, after seeing the Aisin & the Torqflo fan clutch side by side { made in china, from autozone} its going back to the store & made in China, is not Going into The BY FAR SUPERIOR QUALITY HANDS DOWN AISIN TOYOTA PICKUP. p.s. the aisin bearing bracket handled 22 years. The Dorman, 350 miles. lol, maybe thats why theres No Warranty from auto bone.
