trying to upgrade the alt wire but...

im trying to upgrade the alrernator wire but have no idae where is goes. i see it at the alternator then i follow it to the driver side guarter panel. at that point the harness splits off. one side goes into the fender and the other goes forward along the grill and to the fuse box, but i cant find a wire that branches off to go to the battery directly. any ideas? or knowledge?

just route the wire from the alternator directly to the battery. The shortest distance possible is preferable, but make sure it won't snag on anything or rub through and short on any brackets

It goes through the radiator support around to the fuse box. What I did was unstead of ripping open the harness and taking out a good wire (that's too small) I just ran a 2nd wire in parallel to it. That effectively doubled the wire size.

I was able to attach the 2nd wire (IIRC it was about 8 gauge) to the alternator and fuse box in the same spot as the factory wiring.

Be sure and loom and protect the wire good because there is no fuse protection between alt and fuse box.

I did snap a pic of how the 2nd wire attached to the alternator:

I didn't get a pic of the fuse box, but you have to take it off the fender and turn it upside down.

I also upgraded the ground from the alt to the battery:

i ran a 4 gauge wire directly from the alt, up to the front and under the rad support over to the battery.

Are you also using the stock wiring from the alt to the fuse box and then the battery? Or are you just using the 4 ga to charge the battery and leaving the stock wire from the fuse box to the battery unattached?
