Gear To Tires Size

i recently purchased a 82 22r with 5.71 gears and was wondering if running 5.29's would be better or worse as far as mileage and if the 4cyl would be able to turn a set of 39.5's with 5.29's

The little 4-bangers like to rev faster for better mileage, you'll get better MPG with the 5.71s for sure. When I ran 5.29s with my 33s, I got about 10% better MPG than I dp now with 4.88s and 33s.
