Rebuilding my 86 runner, new torsion bars, urathane bushings etc.
I have new seals where the axles go into hub from Toyota but they are different than dealer supplied. It looks like they go on CV and not into hub.
Does anyone know if these seals have changed over the years?

I am trying to find all the correct seals right now for my 87. There are 3 on each
side. One is called a dust deflector, one is an oil seal, and one is the grease seal. What are your part numbers? I have a few numbers.

 

Sorry to bring this up from the grave but I am looking for the "Dust Deflector" And none of my local auto parts stores can find it. Help Plz!!

You have to order it from your Toyota Dealer.

Then they also come on new or rebuilt CV axles

 

I got a rebuilt cv axle built by Cardone and from what I can tell it does not come with a dust deflector. But I will give Toyota a call tomorrow morning. I hope they have one in stock. Probably not but we can always hope.

As far as I know, there are four different seals on an IRS side.
#1- the conventional seal that is in the hub right behind the inner bearing.
C/R # 25968
#2- a 'dust seal' that is bolted to the spindle and knuckle with several bolts.
I don't know what Toyota calls this seal, but I know that they costa plenty.
#3 and #4 are seals that interface with each other where the drive axle meets the inside face of the steering knuckle. One goes onto the knuckle and the other one goes onto the half shaft.
Apparrently, the later IRS uses a slightly different design of these last two seals than the early IRS did. I have heard that either type will work on any IRS truck, but that they must be used in correct pairing. New+new or old+old type. I think that relative seal thickness differences make it difficult or impossible to set the snap ring at the outside of the spindle otherwise.
