Fuel injection year

Anyone know what year that FI was first used on the 4 bangers (22R{E}).
Are the 22RE's all injected and the 22R's carb'ed ??

Thanks,
Fred

Yes, and no. 85 was the first year used in the pick ups....however the 22RE was first introduced in 1983 in the Celica.

There were available 22RE models that used the earlier 22R head, in the 1982 to 1984 Celica GTS.

1984 was the first year fuel injection came out in trucks, it was available in toyota cars before it was added to the trucks.

22 is the generation of the
r engine
T means turbo
E means electronic fuel injection
C means catalytic convertor

22re showed up in the 85 4Runner and Pickup

22re first showed up in 82, though not in the trucks, albeit in an analog injection system, not the digital that reared up in 85.
and rumour has it that the 'C' meant 'California' emissions since all 20r/22r/22re's had catalytic converters
I once had a 78 hilux with a 20R-C and the C designated California... but that was way back then.

C = California emissions. It's in repair manuals under the glossary of terms.
