Power steering pump questions

Okay, so after having my power steering pump pully come OUT of the pump and almost into my fan the other day, I have installed a used pump I bought last week.

I got everything hooked up like its supposed to be but I have a question or two for you guys..

First.

when I removed the old pump, a little fluid came out of hte lines.. Nothing major, perhaps 1/4 a quart. It did dump some fluid out when the pulley came out of the pump the other day. Can I assume there is still some fluid inside the system?

Second.

Can I just fill up the new (used) pump, install my belt and call it good?

Or should I jack up the truck, and cycle the steering from lock to lock a few times then check the fluid again?

I really don't know much about the power steering stuff.. Just how it bolts in

Thanks guys (and girls)

you don't necessarily have to jack it up, but do cycle the steering back and forth from lock to lock and hold it a few seconds at each lock. That should purge the air from the system. check the fluid in the reservoir after each left/right cycle so that you don't risk introducing more air into it.
