Hi guys.

I replaced my 22re lower intake manifold last week, used all new gaskets and o-rings. everything ran great no leaks. Today it got hot out, hit around 90, I noticed the truck was hard to start, then as I was driving smelled gas.
When I got home looked under the hood and sure enough # 3 fuel injector was leaking pretty good. Which explained the hard start, since I lost fuel pressure while it sat.
What is weird is that it had no leaks at all since i re-installed everything,until today. Anyone have any tips on putting the fuel injection system back together so this does not happen again? I lubed the o-rings with fuel like the book said. Moving the injector around did nothing to stop or slow down the leak.

Did you replace the injector seals with new one? They should be very soft and pliable. Are all four injectors the same make/brand?

 

Use this link to get a pic of my idea. Had the same problem when I put mine back together. Had to replace the grommets as well. Got all new o-rings and grommets from Toyota. Think it was less than $20.00 to do all 4 injectors.

Hello, Was wondering if you used seal glide when you replaced the injectors? Me

 

all new o-rings and grommets from toyota were used, just lubed with fuel, never heard of seal glide. the dang grommets are like 4 bucks a piece. i hope I dont need to put all new ones this soon.I will have to check out the seal glide.

I believe they are all the original injectors.
Guess when I pull it apart tomorrow, the problem will make it self known. I am guessing I just didn't have the injector seated straight, and after a week of driving it vibrated enough to start a leak. fun stuff.

 

I just used petroleum jelly. Worked for me the 3 times I pulled all of the injectors out.

 

ok as suspected the o-ring was sliced almost thru. how the heck did that happen, i cant find any sharp edges. i think i will try the petroleum jelly. thanks for the tip.

 

Fuel isn't a good lubricator and probably caused the o-ring to bind and break. The FSM clearly states NOT to use engine oil. Like I said, use petroleum jelly and you'll be fine.

 

Wheel bearing grease or petro jelly works great.
