Air filter recommedations K&N, Trueflow, Amsoil etc

Question about getting a performance air filter. Most people I know all talk about K&N, but I have found a fair bit of info on the web and thru these forums that suggests K&N are actually not very good at filtering crap out of the engine.

I just spent a lot of money getting my engine rebuilt at a Toyota shop so I do care about keeping it clean, but I would also like improved flow and performance.

Is a Trueflow or a Amsoil going to be better for me or is a K&N equal in filtering quality?

Any other good filters to suggest?

If you truly care about keeping it clean, keep your stock filter. It's what everyone's gonna recommend.

i'd keep it stock. it's not like the performace gains are noticeable from just adding a high flow filter any way.

X3 for me, the only reason for K&N is that you get a wee bit more power and it sounds cool, but its mostly for the sound, and it makes you feel special saying you have one.

I'd recommend K&N. as long as you clean it more often than 50,000miles you'll be happy with it. i know i am, 35,000kms later cleaned it twice a year and it performs VERY nicely.

i've run k&n on all my cars since '92 and have'nthad any problems, i like to be able clean my air filters instead of getting a new one every time (more eco-friendly to boot)

My 1yr old 22RE loves it's stock yota filter. Last time I used K+N's was on my ol 1972 BMW 2002 that had dual 45mm DCOE Webers on it. And only then cause there wasnt a stock filter to be had. Talk about sounding good Take off the filters and put on the velocity stacks and that puppy would flat talk at 8 grand. I used to hate cleaning the K+N's.

Stock or Amsoil nanofiber.

K&N are junk... any air filter that I can see holes through is junk IMO... Let it have a 1" coat of dirt and it will filter okay.
