1988 22re coolant leak
I have a 1988 4wd 22re pickup manual trans. It looks like there is coolant leaking from the back drivers side corner of the oil pan. It is running down the plate in front of the bell housing. I have checked the top side and cant see anywhere it is coming from the topside. You cant see the leak until after the truck is turned off and sits a few minutes. Any help would be appreciated.

Try following the metal coolant tubes that run behind the valve cover/head area on the back of the engine...I had a 94 22re years ago, and my small leak was caused by this. I think it is called the coolant bypass cover??? I was able to slide a mirror back there and see a rectangle-shaped plate with the coolant tubes going into one side and coming out the other, and later found the replacement gasket in a kit when I rebuilt the motor.

I do not think it is coming from there. I cant see any where it is runing down the back of the engine. It seems to be coming from between the back of the engine and the bell housing. Are there any freeze plugs on the back of the engine that could be leaking? Thanks

Thanks for the info. It seems that taht is where the leak is coming from. A frien of a friend of mine said he had a simular leak a few years ago and just kept adding a litttle water. Leaked like that till he sold it.

I highly recommend you pressure test it. Buy a pressure tester from your autostore, clean everything of where you see coolant and and go at it, you will see where the leak is easily.
