'90 'Runner, 2wd, all stock except for the 1.5" coil spacers. Want to get new shocks, but the Dufus at the local parts store doesn't know how to take the stock part number and find one an inch and a half longer. How can I find out for myself? Want Gabriel air shocks for towing the bikes...

You probably don't need a longer shock. I have stock shocks with a 1.5" lift coil.

The longest shock you can run is 15" collapsed depending. The stock shocks are about 13.5" collapsed.

You might have to do a little detective work here. FInd a shock the right length with a pin on top and a loop on the bottom and note the application, then ask the parts store for a shock for that application made by Gabriel.

 

Ok, I got shock lengths both compressed and extended, with the stem and loop combo from the Rancho website. Any "conversion" websites for other shocks?

 

I'm afraid not that I know of. Search the internet and you might find something regarding Gabriel air shocks. Email the manufacturer if you want.

To be honest, I did a tonne of research on this trying to get the extra 2 inches rear travel and in the end I elected to just get standard length shocks for the 4runner and forget about the travel. There isn't going to be much weight on the wheel once it travels to the limit of the shock's stroke so it will spin anyways. Get a locker if you really need traction.
