Installed Ome 890's in the rear of my 4runner and its too stiff for my taste, so I was thinking about either:

1. Putting stock springs back in with Daystar 2.5" spacer (Would this amount of lift be the same as the 890's? especially since i have the "lowrider springs")

2. Buying Some LC coils. Im a little fearful of these coils beacuse i like the stance/rake of my 4runner how it is now. Think this would cause too much rake? Ive read mixed lift heights on the LC's



Anyone want to trade a Daystar 2.5" rear spacer or LC's for a pair of practically brand new 890's?

 

What shocks are in the rear? OME's?
How long have they been in for? I havent heard of anyone saying the 890's were too stiff, so you may just need to break them in if it has not been very long.
I would avoid spacers. With rear spacers and your stock 01 saggy springs you will be scraping your butt on the ground in no time.

 

I put 890s in my 01 just over 2 years ago, and they were a little stiff at first, especially when empty. Either they softened up or I just got used to it but I didn't notice as much after 6 months.
The only time I found it a problem was going over speed bumps with no load, and then it only really affected the back seat passengers. With a few hundred punds of gear in the back they were great, and still are.

ya those are the ones i have...im hoping they will soften up, they suck right now.

Just my thoughts but the springs don't make a ride harsher. They do to some extent because of the increased load rating but what makes for a rough ride is the shocks and how they are valved. Shocks dampen the the linear motions and keeping them in control. I've had good luck with the Tokico Trekmasters (green) and KYB mono tubes (red). I've never run the OME so I can't comment on them. Just my thoughts.

 

having the ome's 891's in my 97, 98, 99 4runners, they are stiff. I just put the cruiser coils thx to sonoran steel in the rear of my 2000 and its like a wet dream - theyre soo perfectly made for the 4runners rear - its hard to explain, but then again im running 285's - it fills up the wheel wells a little more than the 265's and looks balanced.

i had ome 890's out back as well. wasnt overly stiff...but firm. i think ome's spring rates are quite abit higher to compensate for extra weight thats (expected) to be put on these modded vehicles. once youre loaded with gear, bumpers, tire carriers etc...it rides well since its most likely within its spring rates. same thing with ome coils for the cruisers...the heavies keep their lift alot longer than the mediums, but once you add weight to the mediums...they'll start to sag. permanently...

i wouldnt go spacers on stock coils. you'll probably be just as firm with that setup. go with 80 coils as per SS, and find a way to level out the front a bit more. or try some downey lift coils with billies. those ride uber plush too...and wont lift it too high. about 2.75~3" if i remember correctly...

 

From what I understand OME springs and shocks are built to use together if you use one and not the other, it may not be the best ride but used together produce very good results. I have no experience with either this is just what i've read and been told.

 

Do you mind posting a pic of your truck and this setup? I want to see how yours looks, sounds like were running a comprable setup

I have to agree, based on experience. I've run just about every lift combination and SS has it dialed in.

Did you consider that it may be your SAW's that are too stiff as well?

 

No. SAW's are only cranked a little under 2" and goin over bumps the front end is nice and smooth its the back end where you gotta do the "up off your seat manuever"...its definitely the rear end, no diggity no doubt
