I need to replace the hose running from the reservoir to the pump on my '86. It has a crack in it. However, I can't find any hose that size at O'Reilly, NAPA, AZ, etc.
I'm guessing by the eyeball it must be 1" on the OD and 5/8" on the ID. Short of going to Toyota where they require a complete set of fingers from either hand, has anyone a clue where else to go or what else would work? Fuel line's not that big and neither heater hose or fuel line I figure would last long with ATF.

 

5/8 " ID Easy Couple. It is also called 801 general purpose air/water/oil. Good to 212 f, 250 wp, 1000 bp. Good stuff for abot $1.50 a foot. I buy it from a local supply house in Boise, and I bet there is someplace you can get it in your area.

Wonder if you might put that a bit more into laymen's terms, though. So, it's just called "Easy Couple"......either/or.....801 general purpose air/water/oil "line"...."hose"....."tubing"? And, what kind of supply house are we talking about, here? There's lots of "supply" houses in this area. Just depends on if you're meaning automotive, electrical, electronic, industrial, and so on.

I had a same but different situation when I did my swap. I needed two different ends put on one new hose.

I found a little local guy who cut the Toyota line ends off, soldered on some standard fittings and then was able to give me what ever length and size line I wished to have right off the shelf.

The black hard line sections in the following pics are Toyota, the rest is new.

Maybe you could do something similar... not sure if your particular line has ends that could be reused though.

 

Good advice from Elvota. Get a hydraulic shop to make you a replacement hose, using your existing ends. Got my PS pressure hose that way for $80, Toyota wanted $275. The return hose should be cheaper.

 

I am assuming that thook just has 5/8" od barb or pipe that he needs to put a hose with some good clamps on.

I get it from a place called Andy's Supply in Boise. They have all types of hoses, fittings, valves, etc for all types of applications including industrial and automotive. Probably any industrial supply store that makes hydraulic hoses has it on their shelf. Heck, for all I know NAPA sells the stuff. Any parts store that can make high pressure hydraulic hoses probably has it or can get it.

If you can't get your hands on any let me know, Andy's is right around the corner from my work. I can have 2 or 3 feet of it in the mail to you today. Cost + shipping would probably be about $10.

Thanks for the offer, dirtoyboy. I'd like to just put a new one in. I've just rebuilt the motor and have replaced a lot of other hoses with new.

And, thanks everyone else. Zlathim is right....it's just the simple barbed fittings line. The other one with hard line connectors is fine.

Okay, zlathim....let's do that. It will be easier for me than the 40mile drive I'd have to make find one locally.....if anyone has something like that in stock. I'll just throw a heater hose on temporarily until the one from you arrives. I'll shoot you a PM and we can arrange for payment and mailing address. Thanks a bunch.

I had to replace this same hose on my 84 4Runner, i could only find it at the dealer and it was 40.00 dollars.

 

Lol....I was just having this conversation with my wife about the cost. I'd wondered for a moment if the guy at Toyota parts hadn't confused the harder line with the one I was asking him for. Now I know.....it's true. Was it made with gold inlay and diamond accents? Geez....what a rip. Sorry you didn't have other options at the time.

Thanks zlathim. I got your PM's earlier, but I've been installing a motor for the better part of the day, so I hadn't replied yet.

 

It will probably bo ok, but be sure to keep an eye on that heater hose when its running and especially pumping hard (ie, turning the wheel at above idle rpm).

That hose is on the suction side of the pump and that heater hose may want to collapse and suck itself shut. May not be an issue, but keep an eye on it.

The hose you will be getting in the mail is way more stout.

I hope the engine install went smoothly for you, you'll have it breathing fire in no time I'm sure.
