Mystery wires. Help please.

Any one know what this red and green wire used to be connected to? This is the wire harness that goes to the tranny etc. on a 2000 taco motor. Much appreciated.[IMG][/IMG]

I have two guesses, and remember that these are only guesses, but it could be either your back up light switch or your transfer case 4wd engagement switch.

I can't find either colour in my 1997 Tacoma wiring diagrams.

On a 4wd, manual t-case (not push button) 2000 taco those two wires are most likely the wires going to the ADD indicator switch. Should be a green wire with a black stripe and a red wire with a white stripe.

If you are hooking up your 4wd light, you should have a plug for the t-case that has a red with white stripe and a white with a black stripe. For your 4wd light to work you will need to connect the green wire with a black stripe and a red wire with a white stripe together as it is in series with the other switch for the t-case.

Before you connect those two wires together, check and make sure that it is the same wire at the switch on the t-case and where your harness is cut (the red wire with the white stripe) with an ohm meter.

Thanks.

I crawled under a 97 today and had a look and it definitely goes to the ADD indicator switch. Thanks for the instructions on hooking it up.
